CADET A is the solo project of German-born, UK-raised and now LA-based artist Axel Ray Steuerwald. and blends Neo-Psych rock’n roll with Magic Realism lyrics and Kraut Rock Electronic Elements. After his previous band United Ghosts (Cleopatra Records) was stalled by the pandemic, Ray started CADET A as a creative outlet during lockdown. The first more organic CADET A album, APOLLO ZERO was released in 2022 on Du Blonde’s UK label DAEMON TV and is now physically sold out. The lead single COME SEE ME was widely featured on play lists and radio. Most notably BBC 6 ‘s Steve Lamacq who supported the track with multiple spins. The accompanying video, which premiered on NYC’s The Big Takeover has 5-figure views on Youtube. Ray toured the UK/EU solo in 2022 and 2023.
Since then, he has recruited a full band, including bassist Mimi Star (My Life In The Thrill Kill Kult), Jaquelyn Sky (synths/keys) and drummer Joey Ponchetti. Together they embrace a fiercely futuristic post psychedelic sound – and put on a transcendend live show with a big visual element. The fully animated space based video for the latest single CHRISTINE SHINE ON has already won awards all over the world.
Axel Ray has shared stages with Black Francis, BRMC, Ash, The Raveonettes, Deap Valley, LA Witch, The Warlocks and many more. His songs have been widely featured on movies and TV shows including Big Bang Theory, Shameless, Veronica Mars, V, Moonlight, The Mentalist and recently the movie Cold Brook. Singles will be dropping throughout late summer and fall, starting with Christine Shine On (Radio Edit).
